Al Qaeda hates America. I'm asking you if you believe there is any reason that they would execute an attack only if KSM was being tried in New York City. To me the answer to that question seems to be pretty obviously no. If al Qaeda had the resources to carry out an attack in New York, they would do it, regardless of KSM's location. So KSM's presence in NYC has very little bearing--if any bearing at all--on either al Qaeda's capabilities or al Qaeda's willingness to carry out an attack.

Well lets break this down, first do I think al Qaeda would execute a attack where ever they went in the yes, yes I do a large city is much easily accessible though as it allows them to blend in and prepare.

Second terrorist attacks, especially complex ones take years in the planning, this includes getting multiple sleeper agents in, planning, setting up resources, etc etc. We already know al Qaeda has agents in place in the United States, including in New York. It is entirely conceivable that such a event as KSM's arrival provides much more added motivational to speed up the time table of a attack already in motion. Or to move resources from a attack they were planning on one target, to a New York attack.

KSM was a very high ranking member of al Qaeda, the city, his stature, and the symbolism of it taking place in New York gives al Qaeda ALOT of motivation to strike.

Look at it this way. We try KSM in Gitmo. Al Qaeda has a chance to attack New York City concurrent with that, even though KSM is in Gitmo. Do you think al Qaeda would pass?

No I do not, but there is a fault in your logic, for a attack to be taking place in NYC or really anywhere, it would take years in the making. Since Gitmo trials are not really televised or told of, for them to pull off a attack at the same time would be at best a coincidence.

Do you think if KSM was dead right now and al Qaeda had a chance to attack NYC in a year, they'd pass?

I don't think they would pass up a chance to hit New York period.

Now think of it this way, lets say al Qaeda already have the sleeper cells in place in say New York, they are planning a attack for September 11th 2011, the 10 year anniversary of the attack. They have the ground work in place, and are working on the final stages before the actual suicide bombers come. They get word that a major al Qaeda figure will be having a trial that will last close to when their attacks take place. Do you honestly think that al Qaeda if they wanted to, wouldn't push the time table ahead to attack during that trial? They have the men and resources already in place, just a few more added elements needed, but the KSM trial gives them added motivation to push a timetable ahead of a attack they already had scheduled.

KSM's presence has no impact on al Qaeda strategy.

Which is a guess, one that is not shared by the NYPD, the Feds, and the former mayor of New York and possibly the current Governor of New York.
