A Chilan Berry (Japanese: ホズのみ Hozu Fruit) is a type of Berry introduced in Generation IV.

In the Generation V games, the Chilan Berry can be sold to the gourmet maniac on Route 5 for $20.

Effect

Held item

If the holder is hit by a Normal-type attack, it will consume its held Chilan Berry and halve the attack's damage. If the holder has Ripen, the damage is multiplied by 1/4.

In Generation IV, it also activates for Struggle as well as when the holder hits itself in confusion despite dealing typeless damage. The Chilan Berry no longer activates for Struggle in Generation V onward.

Generation VI
Pokémon X and Y

A Chilan plant will yield 3-20 Berries. During its growth, watering the plant adds 1 Berries to the final harvest, weeding it adds 0.5, and removing a pest adds 2. Chilan plants attract Combee as pests.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

A Chilan plant will yield 2-10 Berries.

Generation VII
Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon

A Chilan plant will yield 2 Berries if Isle Aplenny is at Phase 1, 4 Berries if it is at Phase 2, and 6 Berries if it is at Phase 3.

Generation VIII
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

A Chilan plant will yield 2-5 Berries.

In Problematic Probopass and Mad Magnezone II, a Chilan Berry was seen among the many Berries that Cyrus's Probopass's Mini-Noses dug out of Lax's fur while trying to retrieve Cyrus's camera.

Trivia

• Unlike the other damage-reducing Berries, the Chilan Berry weakens attack damage (except by moves that deal direct damage) regardless of type effectiveness, instead of super effective damage only. This may be because Normal-type moves cannot normally be super effective.
• The Chilan Berry does not weaken Present if it heals the target.
• This is the only Berry which, when held, allows the move Natural Gift to be Normal-type.
• Another Berry in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire has the same name. However, this Berry is exclusive to its relevant e-Reader card, hence it is unavailable in Generation IV games and will become an Enigma Berry if traded over.
• When buying Chilan Berries in Join Avenue, the text will say "A set of four Chilan Berries. They weaken a supereffective Normal-type attack against the holding Pokémon." This is most likely a mistake since all other damage-reducing Berries only work if the attack is super-effective.
