So much more violent than I expected. XD I mean, the soruce material got kind of girzzly at point, but yikes! I can understand the complaint that they went too far, but I honestly like it this way: in real life, superhero battles would be absolutely nasty. I gotta say though, the sex scene felt unneccesary; the graphic novel's approach to it was much better. Although I did laugh at the end of it.
Another complaint I've seen... and this stems primarily from my high school-aged friends... is Dr. Manhattan's penis. Honestly, people. It's a penis. Nothing you haven't seen before. x.x; I mean, I hate to even bring it up, but that seems to be the primary conversation point amongst so many people, and it's just plain driving me crazy.
And far more annoying: what kind of parent takes their small child to see an R-rated movie!? Especially one as adult-targeted as this one. What the hell, man.
One comaplaint that's completely justified was "What was that tiger thing?" Yeah, if you're going to include it in the movie, at least provide an explination and don't just randomly throw it in at the end.
Of course the reason for its being in the first place was to set-up the alien bit, but since they dumbed that down...They nailed Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, and the Comedian. Not so much Ozymandias. The soundtrack was handeled pretty well, although Ride of the Valkyries at the one part felt awkward. Maybe that was the point, but I simply didn't care for it.
And yeah, I realize I'm doing more whining about reception than discussing the actual movie. But it was a pretty loyal translation, to the point where I don't have that many comments to make about it because it's all old to me.
